What support is there available for people living with brain injury and their carers?

There is a wide plethora of support for individuals and carers

living with brain injury. This comes in the form of the health professionals involved both directly and indirectly with the person living with a brain    injury and voluntary and statutory sector.     

Support is often categorised as advice, information, social, and emotional to both the person living with brain injury and their carers

Charity support:

There are several charities providing support to individuals living with a brain injury and their carers. These charities can offer information, advice and support focussed around the interests of the individual and the carer.

 

Carers NI:

Provides an information service for carers and professionals, dealing with a range of issues such as carers’ benefits, community care and services for carers.
Offering carers the chance to meet with other carers, share experiences and reduce the feeling of isolation that carers often feel through local branches and groups. Raising awareness of the role of carers and informing government and policy makers Providing training to workers in the voluntary and statutory sector on carers' issues and carers assessments.

CBIT:

Provides information, advice and support for children living with a brain injury and their families through out NI, Support for teachers and teaching assistants, helping them to understand brain injury through training, awareness-raising sessions and written information. CBIT has two dedicated Child and Family Support officers in Northern Ireland and between them they cover the whole of the province. Cedar delivers a range of services that enable people with disabilities to get the most out of life and to be fully included in their communities. Our services are centred around the individual needs of each person and are delivered throughout Northern Ireland. Headway:

We promote a wider understanding of all aspects of brain injury and provide information, support and social activities for people living with brain injury, their families and carers. We  offer training,  advice, information and support. Reconnect:

Reconnect works in support of adults with acquired brain injury, enabling them to achieve their maximum potential through structured programmes based on the individuals and their personal goals. Reconnect delivers socio-vocational training, works with the clients to re-develop old skills or identify and encourage new skills which will improve quality of life.
